What is NLP?
NLP is about studying how people can be exceptionally good at an activity or subject. This process is based on modeling. The techniques and skills learned are replicated in areas such as business, counseling, education and sports to obtain a consistent result in communication, personal development, and learning. One can also model one’s own past success so that a similar kind of success can be repeated. It is a process of rediscovering your creative power or natural ability.
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming.
Neuro refers to our neurological system – that is the neurological processes of seeing, hearing, feeling, tasting and smelling. We use these senses, mind and body to interpret external events, and translate our experience into thought processes, both conscious and unconscious. It shows a connection between our mind and body, and how they function as one system, which forms one of the NLP principles or presuppositions (Mind and body are one system). Our full awareness of it gives us the ability to change our experience of situations and our perception of people, and the reactions that we get.
Linguistic refers to how we use language to give meaning to our experience and how we transmit that experience to ourselves and others. Our language patterns convey to the outside world about who we are, what we believe, what we want and how we think. NLP helps us to improve the quality of the information we exchange with others, and increase the level of understanding that we create with our communication. Language skill is important not only when we interact with others, but also when we interact with ourselves.
Programming is the coding of exceptional talent. This process is known as modeling. Modeling involves replicating the same sequence of thinking patterns, language use and behaviour to achieve a specific result. The results we achieve or the excellence we reproduce is the result of our personal programs. An increased awareness of these sequences enables us to code other people’s experience, and also to access our inner resources in order that our true potential is fully realized. It further enables us to raise the quality of our relationships, multiply our personal choices and gain greater control over our life.
